What is a Cheese Wedding Cake?

A cheese wedding cake, sometimes called a wedding cheese cake tower, is a cake made of different types of cheeses, stacked in layers.

It is a popular alternative to a traditional wedding cake and can be adorned with fresh fruit or flowers.

These cakes are typically dense and sweet, making them the perfect dessert for any special occasion. Cheese is a traditional ingredient in many cultures and countries.

In some countries, it is even used to celebrate the beginning of the wedding season. Cheese wedding cakes originated in Europe and have been gaining popularity in recent years.

Why Choose a Cheese Wedding Cake?

One of the latest wedding cake trends is cheese wedding cakes. But why cheese on your special day? Cheese is a versatile ingredient that can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. It also offers a variety of flavours and textures, which can appeal to a wide range of guests.

Cheese is a relatively affordable option compared to other types of wedding cakes, which also provide some nutritional benefits.

Cheese wedding cakes are embraced by brides who want to celebrate their wedding day with a unique display of cheeses. They are also loved by cheese lovers, who enjoy sampling the different kinds of cheeses in their cake.

How Do I Decorate My Cheese Cake?

When you order a cheese cake, in the majority of cases they come undecorated. Some companies like us provide a decoration service for an extra charge where we come to your venue and decorate the cake to your specification. You can always get a local flourish to do it for you.

Cheese wedding cakes can be decorated in a variety of ways. The most popular is the use of edible flowers and traditional fruits such as strawberries or grapes. Other decorations include ribbons or shredded cheese, which can look great when placed on top of the cake, or gold and silver leaves, which can be applied on the sides of the cake or around the edge of the centrepiece.

You can also use:

  • Fresh or dried fruits, such as figs, apricots, or cranberries
  • Sprinkle on some chopped nuts, such as pistachios or almonds
  • drizzle on honey or maple syrup
  • if you want to take it a step further, you can create a themed cheese cake. For example, a winter wedding could have a white and blue cheese cake with edible snowflakes made out of shredded cheese.

Whichever way you choose to decorate your cake, your guests will be sure to love this unique and delicious wedding dessert!

How to Choose the Size of the Cake?

When you are ready to choose the wedding cake, a good rule of thumb would be to work on an average of 110g per person for the main event. This way if there are leftovers, the cheese can be eaten at home or distributed to family and friends. It’s always best to have extra than to run out, so less chance of disappointing someone.

If you are not sure, your cheese cake suppliers will always be on hand to advise you of the correct size of cake that would be suitable for your special day.

Which Type of Cheeses Should I Use?

There are so many types of cheeses to choose from, it can be hard to know which one to use for your cheese wedding cake, and satisfy everyone’s taste buds.

You need to have a balance of different flavour cheeses such as Cheddar, Stilton, Red Leicester, and so on…

Also, think about the flavour of your cake. Whether you would like it to be sweet or savoury? Ricotta is a good choice for a sweet cake, while cheddar is a good choice for a savoury cake.

Consider the texture of the cheese. Some cheeses are creamier than others. If you want a smooth and creamy cake, choose a cheese like ricotta or cream cheese. If you want a chunky cake, choose a cheese like cheddar or Brie.

You can find a full description of different cheeses here which will help you to make a choice.

When Should I Place the Order?

When you are ready to place an order with your supplier, always give them plenty of notice so they can organize the cake without interruptions. It’s your special day, and since there is so much to organize, you don’t want any last-minute problems for the main canter piece.

Depending on the current market demand, there is a possibility that shortages can occur. So it is always better to place the order in advance so the supplier has plenty of time to sort out any shortage problems if there are any at that time.

Ideally, we would advise a minimum of one month’s notice before your wedding day.

When Will the Cake Arrive at the Venue

In most cases, your cake will arrive either on the same day as your wedding, or 2 days before depending on which day of the week your wedding falls on.

If the wedding is at the weekend, your cake would normally arrive on a Friday either at the venue or a location of your choice, depending on which company you use to purchase your cake, because all companies have their delivery methods and timing. If it arrives a day before your big day, make sure that the wedding cake is kept refrigerated so it stays fresh.

Final Thoughts

Cheese wedding cakes are becoming increasingly popular. They’re a fun and unique way to celebrate your special day.

Cheese wedding cakes can be made with any type of cheese that you want. The best thing would be to go for the most popular cheeses that everyone is familiar with such as cheddar, mozzarella, soft cheese, blue cheese, godminster, brie, Stilton, and red Leicester to name a few.

When choosing your cake, have fun and don’t take it too seriously. Talk to your supplier about any concerns that you may have. They will be more than happy to help.

A side note

Cheese cakes can be for any occasion, whether it’s for a birthday, anniversary, engagement or even simple as passing a driving test. What a way to celebrate, hey?
